Overcoming Antisemitism

"If I am not for myself than who is for me? If I am only for myself, what am I?
And if not now, when?"
- Hillel

In recent years, we have witnessed a resurgence of antisemitic activity in the democratic world. In Europe, synagogues have been burned, rabbis have been abused in the streets, Jewish children have been physically attacked on the way to school and inside schools, and Jewish cemeteries have been desecrated. We need to prevent and confront existing antisemitism as a concern for all - Jews and non-Jews - if we are to live in societies that are free from hatred.

Specifically, the objectives of this training programme are to:
  • Increase awareness of Jewish people, Judaism and antisemitism
  • Explore contemporary and historical manifestations of antisemitism
  • Explore the relevance of antisemitism and the experience of the Jewish people to issues of diversity and discrimination in general
  • Develop skills and strategies for confronting antisemitism

The programme is organised to allow antisemitism to be addressed separately or together with the programme "Overcoming Islamophobia". The manuals were developed with the generous support of the European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe.

These manuals are available to participants of our training courses. Dates will be announced during the coming weeks. Each training is open to people of all faiths and of none. For further information please contact training@ceji.org

Flanders Today interviewed trainers Ruth Friedman and Hassan Amaghlaou regarding their work in this area in the article titled "Strengthening the ties that bind - Training brings Jews and Muslims together to fight discrimination". You can read the article here
