Overcoming Islamophobia

CEJI's mission to contribute to an inclusive Europe derives from centuries of Jewish experience with integration and the difficulties presented by prejudice and hatred. It is the organisation's belief that we must confront all forms of discrimination.

Islamophobia is a reality in today's social context and will continue to escalate if not addressed through constructive educational mechanisms. Positive intercultural relations can only be assured by confronting prejudice and discrimination, understanding cultures, respecting individual and collective rights, and facilitating constructive dialogue on shared norms and issues.

Specifically, the objectives of this training programme are to:

  • Increase awareness of Muslim people and culture, and Islam as a religion.
  • Develop an appreciation for the contribution of Muslim people to European society.
  • Explore contemporary and historical manifestations of Islamophobia/racism against Muslims.
  • Develop individual skills and institutional strategies for recognising and confronting Islamophobia.
  • Encourage people and institutions to work together and share responsibility for addressing Islamophobia

The programme is organised to allow antisemitism to be addressed separately or together with the programme "Overcoming Antisemitism". The manuals were developed with the generous support of the European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe.

These manuals are available to participants of our training courses. Dates will be announced during the coming weeks. Each training is open to people of all faiths and of none. For further information please contact training@ceji.org
