Shiur Handover

The upcoming Shiur, entitled ‘The Shofar: Sound and Symbolism’, will take place on Thursday, September 18th, from 13.00 -14.30 at 50 Rue Wiertz on the ground floor.
After close to 15 years of CEJI Shiurim we have decided to hand-over to a different organisation so as to ensure their continued success. We are pleased to announce that we have found a suitable partner in the International Jewish Center (IJC), an English-speaking progressive Jewish community in Brussels. They look forward to welcoming all of you.

EPTO's Summer Conference - "Peer education and intercultural dialogue: new ideas, new perspectives"

This year we have 21 peer trainers from nine different EU countries and 7 peer trainers from the United States meeting to share ideas, tools, opinions and visions on how peer education can be an effective methodology in building intercultural dialogue in youth environments.
The Conference, funded by the Youth in Action programme of the European Commission, will be held at ICA (Institute for Cultural Affairs), Brussels from 17 to 22 September, 2008. For more information, contact Giuseppe Marletta, European Coordinator here.

CEJI Presentation at Global Antisemitism Seminar.

CEJI presented the Jewish Muslim Platform and the Religious Diversity Programme to the Biennial International Seminar on Antisemitism in Tel Aviv earlier this month.
Organised by the Stephen Roth Institute for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism and Racism, the seminar allowed researchers, monitors and community leaders to discuss developments and issues with regard to antisemitism and ways of combating them. The Institute, founded as the Project for the Study of Anti-Semitism in fall 1991, is located in the Gilman Building, Tel Aviv University is one of the leading research and monitoring institutes in the field of anti-Semitism.
Gidon van Emden, CEJI's Deputy Director responsible for EU Policy and Jewish Affairs, was invited to be the respondent for a session entitled "Relations between Jewish Communities and Other Minorities". Connecting the lines between various preceding speakers, he drew out some of CEJI's principles for conducting intercultural dialogue, and put forward some current issues in the field. CEJI Welcomes the Launch of the BEWC.

On 9 September, CEJI attended the launch of the Black European Women’s Council (BEWC) in Brussels. Brenda King, President of the Section for Employment, Social Affairs and Citizenship of the European Economic and Social Committee welcomed everyone to this historic occasion. Best wishes to outgoing EPTO Coordinator, Giuseppe Marletta, as he embarks on a new professional endeavour! It has been a pleasure for everyone at CEJI to work with Giuseppe during his time with us, and we will be sad to see him leave.
